Common Asian Koel

25 Apr

The Common Asian Koel could be heard calling out loudly in the gardens during morning hours. I managed to catch this Koel calling out and infact have a good view of it. What happened next was pretty interesting as the Koel looks like opening its mouth wide while no sound was generated. It took a while before the Koel finally threw out a pellet.

Nature Macro Photography

Nature Macro Photography
My main core interest in Nature Photography is in Avian and mammals where action takes place. However, in this country where such nature spots are very lacking, nature photographers could find more shooting opportunities in going for macro shots. The opportunities here are endless in this country for macro.

Sunset for the day

19 Apr

After a day of shooting in the wild, I came by this patch of deserted land near the northern part of Singapore. As the sunset, the colour of the sky turns into a fire glow below the blue sky.

Associateship of The Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain

19 Apr

The Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain offers distinction for photographic works in Associateship and Fellowship.

I approach photography as an art and love action shots. I do not approach photography as a form of scientific or forensic recording. I attained a distinction of Associateship with the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain under the Nature category specialized in Avian Photography. There are three grades of distinction-LRPS, ARPS & FRPS (Licentiate, Associate and Fellow). The Associateship is a more specialized Distinction. It is awarded for a high degree of proficiency and the demonstration of a high technical and visual competence in particular categories.

Baya Weaver Birds

03 Apr

The Baya Weaver (Ploceus philippinus) is a small bird found in Asia. In Singapore, their breeding seasons takes place in April and one can see their nest along the banks of unused roads. Flocks of these birds are found in grasslandsand they are best known for their hanging retort shaped nests woven from leaves. These nest colonies are usually found on thorny trees or palm fronds and the nests are often built near water or hanging over water where predators cannot reach easily.
