BiodiverCity’ Photo Exhibition Launch 2010

21 Jun

BiodiverCity’ Photo Exhibition Launch 2010 was launched on Saturday 22 May 2010 outside Mandarin Hotel (The Mandarin Gallery) along Orchard Road. The Photographic competition was held in conjunction with the International Year of BioDiversity 2010. The award ceremony was graced by the Minister Mr Mah Bow Tan, Minster for National Development of Singapore. I won the Grand Prize for this competition where there were more then 2200 entries from 725 participants.

My winning shot was taken at Sungei Buloh Nature Reserve in Singapore where a Smooth Otter jumps up for it’s prey. The prey was a flower crab. It was a spontaneous moment that I captured it with my Nikon 600mm telephoto lens. Such moments could hardly come by as Otter normally will dive for their prey and not jump for it. Besides fish are their main diet.

Smooth Otters at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

08 Dec

There are now a family of 5 Smooth Otters who have make Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve in Singapore as their home. Recently, I witnessed a pack of wild dogs about 10 of them showing aggressiveness towards these Otters. The Otters were hunting for fish in the water and encountered resistance when they wanted to go on land. Matters was brought forward to the management of Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve as well as the AVA authority to act on this matter so that the Otters can still make this place their home.

Crocodile at Singapore Nature Reserve

01 Dec

Have been on the look out for crocodile in our Singapore Nature Reserve for quite sometime hoping to catch them in the wild and to record their nature behaviour.

Finally I managed to find it face to face with me while it was resting and also on the look out for food…I guess.

Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve Landscape

24 Nov

Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve was recognized as a site of international importance for migratory birds with Wetlands International presenting the reserve a certificate to mark its formal entry into the East Asian Australasian Shorebird Site Network, which include Australia’s Kakadu National Park, China’s Mai Po and Japan’s Yatsu Tidal Flats.

Sungei Buloh became Singapore’s first ASEAN Heritage Park in 2003. This shot was taken at the Wetland reserve as the storm starts coming in.  Beautiful sight.
