Smooth Otters at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

08 Dec

There are now a family of 5 Smooth Otters who have make Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve in Singapore as their home. Recently, I witnessed a pack of wild dogs about 10 of them showing aggressiveness towards these Otters. The Otters were hunting for fish in the water and encountered resistance when they wanted to go on land. Matters was brought forward to the management of Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve as well as the AVA authority to act on this matter so that the Otters can still make this place their home.

When they fly, they retract their neck in flight like a heron.

The use to breed at at residential site instead of at the swamp areas. They were once found in Singapore but it is now totally confined to Malaysia Muar area.

Crocodile at Singapore Nature Reserve

01 Dec

Have been on the look out for crocodile in our Singapore Nature Reserve for quite sometime hoping to catch them in the wild and to record their nature behaviour.

Finally I managed to find it face to face with me while it was resting and also on the look out for food…I guess.

Little Grebe

23 Nov

The Little Grebe (Tachybaptus ruficollis), is small in size and is 23 to 29 cm in length. It is the smallest  of the grebe family of water birds and is commonly found in open ponds.

These Little Gebe was facing extinction in Singapore when the last patch of their habitat wasdue for destruction. It was lucky that somehow a handful of them make it to survive at a disused Singapore Quarry that was converted into a nature reserve.
